MBR

Jacopa® MBR Technology® Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) systems are currently the best technology available to meet stringent treated effluent standards in wastewater treatment and reuse applications, where small footprint dictates using a more intense and compact process. Jacopa works with customers to deliver the MBR technology that will meet the needs of each wastewater treatment requirement or problem. Over many years Jacopa has proved its leadership in the MBR arena for municipal wastewater treatment to water utilities and for industrial wastewater eg food and beverage industry. Jacopa is able to provide new plants, with the capability to containerise if needed, extend and refurbish existing plants, upgrade existing plants and also to provide replacement membrane panels with expert technical support as required. Jacopa also provides long term asset maintenance and optimisation services to MBR installations.

Sewage Treatment

The Jacopa MBR (Membrane Bio-Reactor) produces a very high quality disinfected effluent.  Raw sewage generally only requires screening (with a maximum aperture of 2mm in 2d) and de-gritting prior to entering the membrane bioreactor tank.  The process requires no primary or secondary settlement stages and no additional tertiary treatment or UV stages to achieve quality typically better than 5:5:5 mg/L BOD: Suspended Solids: Ammonia.

The Jacopa MBR system has inherent design advantages. It does not remove the solids by settlement; therefore the biomass can operate at very high levels of mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS), generally in the order of 12,000-18,000 mg/l.  This high concentration enables a low tank volume and a long sludge age to be utilised, which reduces sludge production and allows a small footprint.

Jacopa has over 20 years’ experience in the design and build of MBR with numerous plants operational in the UK and Ireland treating municipal and industrial wastewater to a high standard on a reliable basis.

  • Jacopa can design and build new plants, refurbish upgrade and extend existing plants to meet customers’ requirements.
  • Jacopa provides a rapid response spare parts service including membrane panels. • Jacopa delivers high level technical and process support to assist customers to optimise operational performance.
  • Jacopa service and maintenance teams are available to maintain, service, install, upgrade 24/7.
  • Jacopa has a vast inventory of membrane panels to provide quick response for replacement panels.
  • Jacopa has a UK based in-house team able to work with customers for all their replacement membrane needs.

The company also offers the potential for water reuse through its advanced membrane bioreactor (MBR) solution, which can reduce COD and nutrient levels far below those achieved by conventional biological treatment or retrofitted Ultra Filtration alone. MBR can also be used as a primary stage within a hybrid MBR/RO system for potential potable water reuse, or can provide highly treated water for agricultural or horticultural irrigation.

Membrane Panels

In recognition of the need for a robust, efficient and commercially attractive option, Jacopa has its own flat sheet membrane panels.

The panels are manufactured using PVDF with an asymmetric structure, which enables excellent flux rates and exceptional resistance to fouling. They can be cleaned using a simple chemical process, and maintenance and replacement are also straightforward.

The Jacopa membrane is firmly welded to a high intensity support frame, resulting in a stable membrane structure that is resistant to damage and tearing. As a result, the company is offering a three-year warranty against manufacturing defects.
