THAMES WATER – REFURBISHMENT OF CHAIN RAKED SCREEN – BECKTON SEWAGE TREATMENT WORKS

Beckton sewage treatment works is situated in the borough of Newham and is the largest treatment works in Europe, serving a population of circa 3.5 million.

The existing chain raked screen required a full overhaul including replacement of the headshaft, damper arms, scraper blades, return sprockets, guide tracks, chain track and repainting of the screen.

To reduce down time and costs Jacopa utilised the mobile crane being used for their other work on site to remove the screen which was transported back to their workshop facility for a full strip down and examination before refurbishment by their experienced engineers and then returned to site and re-installed.

The screen is now providing a fully operational and reliable process, acting as the first line of defence and protecting the downstream equipment from excessive rag and other debris.
