CLIMATE CHANGE PRESSURE FOR WATER SECTOR
The CIWEM Annual Conference, held in the Royal Geographic Society in London this week highlighted how the landmark new Paris climate change agreement will help concentrate water industry efforts to reduce energy consumption. Speaking at the conference, Severn Trent Water, Chief Executive Liv Garfield said, “Energy is the second highest cost in Severn Trent’s operations”. This comment will resonate with many other UK utilities and the Paris agreement will increase yet further pressure on the sector to significantly reduce emissions in order to both reduce cost and mitigate climate change.
Jacopa Business Development Manager and CIWEM NI Branch, Immediate Past Chairman, Kieran Madine, who attended the conference said, “The Paris agreement makes it an imperative that the water industry take immediate action to reduce energy consumption and our portfolio includes a number of carbon neutral products to assist the sector in achieving this goal.”
“Jacopa have worked hard to develop a range of products to assist the industry in its drive to lower costs and protect the environment. These include filter bed distributors, cyclone screens, storm tank tipping buckets, Copa Sacs and Cross Wave Screens. The Company also offer low energy Rotating Biological Contactors, ECO SAFs and new high efficiency Band Screens. With so many carbon neutral and low-energy products in the Jacopa range, we are well placed to help the industry meet its energy reduction and climate change targets.”
