CIWEM PRIZE PRESENTED

The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) Prize for MSc in Environmental Engineering has been won by Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) MEng Environment & Civil Engineering graduate, Karl Traynor. The prize is awarded annually to the student with the best overall performance on the MSc in Environmental Engineering.

The award, which is based on the recommendation of the Head of Civil Engineering in consultation with the Board of Examiners, was established by CIWEM in recognition of the relevance of the Masters course to industry, to foster stronger links with QUB and to encourage students to progress their professional qualifications through the Institution.

The award which was donated by the local CIWEM branch was presented on Graduation Day by Kieran Madine, Business Development Manager for wastewater systems and solutions experts Jacopa Ltd. Kieran is an active member of CIWEM’s Northern Ireland Branch Committee, and a former Chairman of the branch.

Presenting the award Kieran said: “CIWEM’s aim is to build a global community of water and environmental professionals dedicated to working for the public benefit. As an independent charity we champion professional standards and are therefore delighted to sponsor this award which recognises professional and academic excellence in Environmental Engineering.”
