DynaDrum

The DynaDrum is a cloth filtration process with the membrane stretched overs a cylindrical frame.  The cloth retains the solid material inside the drum with the clean effluent flowing out and away.  The simplistic construction and compact nature make it the ideal device for small treatment works that have a tightening of the discharge in order to meet their consents.

The DynaDrum Units have been successfully used for over 30 years, originally in aquaculture, then municipal wastewater treatment.

DynaDrum is available in five different sizes: 0.6 m, 0.8 m, 1.2 m, 1.6 m and 2.0 m in diameter and provides up to 22.5 m2 net filter surface per machine.

The woven filter fabric, with a density down to 10 microns, sits firmly on the filter panels and is uniformly tensioned to maximise fabric life and minimise the number of attachment points.

A proven and robust design that provides high efficiency filtration with minimum pressure drop.

How it works

Flow enters the middle of the drum and flow out through the filter cloth where solids are captured on the inside of the drum section. The clean effluent flow over the constant level weir to discharge, when the headloss across the unit increases the system initiates a clean cycle, the drum rotates and the capture solids are washed off the cloth into the collection trough

Novel Drive Train and Filter Panels

The DynaDrum’s advantage over similar products is the attentions to detail, allowing for a more robust products suitable for many applications.  The Drive chain is made from a strong plastic material so is corrosion and lubricant free, the links of the chain are held in place by 316 stainless steel pins, allowing the chain to be easily dismantled and reassembled, the drive being of the peripheral of the drum, not the centre, means significantly less stress on the whole unit.

The filter panels are made in a number of sections depending on the diameter of the drive, each easy for a single operative to handle. They are quick and easy to replace if required, and are either made from polypropylene of GRP.  The mesh can be any suitable size of the application, but are typically a nominal 10 micron for municipal applications.

Operation

The units operate continuously with backwash water to clean the drum taken from the effluent side of the unit. The oscillating backwash header ensure then the entire surface if the drum is cleaned, and minimised washwater usage.  The units are available in a number of diameters from 500 mm up to 1600 mm, with from 0.4 to 1.6 m2 of filtration area.  The large units are also available for installation into concrete tanks.

Advantages of DynaDrum
Filter panel:

  • Fewer parts per drum segment for easy maintenance and reduced weight.
  • The fabric is bonded to the filter panels, which maximises densification and allows a high fabric tension, thus extending the operating life cycle.
  • Low weight allows the installation of up to 22.5 m2 effective filtration per DynaDrum.
  • The amount and load levels are based on the actual rather than theoretical filter surface.

Compact width overflow and bypass:

  • Internal and external width opportunities.
  • Space saving, expandable width overflow.

Optimised backwashing:

  • Protection against foreign objects in the backwashing system.\
  • Backwashing systems that minimise water and energy consumption.

Robust operation:

  • Light, lubrication-free and corrosion-resistant chain drive.

Two variants – one method:
DynaDrum is available as a standalone unit with a chassis in stainless steel or with a framework for installation in a concrete tank. Whichever you choose, you get the same reliable industry-leading rugged design.

Applications

Originally used in the aquaculture industry the DynaDrum can be used in any filtration application with a suitable membrane cloth.  Its simplistic operation and compact nature makes it the ideal unit for low flow situations where space is a premium.
