JACOPA TO MARKET NORDIC WATER BELT FILTER

JACOPA TO MARKET NORDIC WATER BELT FILTER
Jacopa Ltd and Swedish water and wastewater treatment specialist Nordic Water have announced an agreement that provides Jacopa with the sole right to distribute the latter’s highly-regarded Sobye self-cleaning belt filter in the UK and Ireland.
The Sobye belt filter has gained an excellent reputation over a 25-year period as an automatic, self-cleaning compact solution for primary treatment to replace settlement tanks. More than 200 systems are currently in use, with around 100 of these in the municipal primary treatment market.
The filter takes screened wastewater to an inlet above the screen belt, the wastewater then flows under gravity through the moving filter belt. Filtered wastewater is discharged from the bottom of the tank. The belt speed is controlled, which allows a layer of sludge to build up on the cloth to increase filtration efficiency.
When the screen requires cleaning, the belt rotates so that particles are removed with an integrated brush. A high-pressure spray bar then cleans the belt, and the dislodged sludge can be discharged to a screw conveyor for further washing and pressing to a high dry solids content. The washwater is, together with filtrate from the press, returned upstream. The filter belt is very robust and is readily replaced when required.
There are three sizes of belt filter suited to the municipal wastewater market, the Sobye TD 07, the TD 14 and the TD 20, which are renowned as small-footprint units with a high filtering capacity: Their effective filter areas are 0.74m2, 1.45m2 and 2.0m2 respectively
The units are fabricated in stainless steel, and the heavy-duty polyester belt mesh aperture size ranges from 60-1000 Microns. Flow volumes are up to 50m3/h for the TD-07, 100m3/h for the TD 14 and 150m3/h for the TD 20.
The effectiveness of BOD and suspended solids removal across the Sobye unit is at least equivalent to conventional primary settlement but performs to this standard with a much reduced footprint. Operational and maintenance costs are also equivalent to conventional primary settlement tanks and scrapers systems.
Jacopa Managing Director, Alex Lloyd said: “We are delighted to be able to provide this well-regarded product from the well regarded Nordic Water company which further consolidates our reputation for providing robust, high quality, innovative and cost-effective wastewater treatment solutions. Early response to the belt filter has been excellent, with several water companies already expressing an interest and options being actively explored. The cost and price data make this system extremely competitive and with capital and maintenance budgets under pressure we anticipate considerable interest within the wastewater treatment market.”
The Sobye belt filter can be retrofitted easily into existing facilities, being simple to install. Jacopa envisage that with the speed of implementation it will be embraced as an effective permanent treatment system, with the option for rental where shorter term threats to efficient operation by works overload or maintenance of primary tanks is a concern for operators.

JACOPA SCORES 100% IN ACHILLES AUDIT
Jacopa have taken top honours scoring a maximum 100% in every section across both the ‘Management System Evaluation’ and ‘Onsite Assessment’ categories in a recent Achilles UVDB Verify audit. During the two-day audit Achilles’ qualified assessors scrutinised everything from on-site incident records to the company’s corporate social responsibility policy to finally deliver Jacopa’s top marks score.
The Audit provides assurance for buyers in the utilities sector, giving them access to a suitably pre-qualified supply chain that they can invite to tender. Jacopa’s top marks score provides assurance for those seeking access to a premier league supplier and underlines the company’s credentials as a progressive organisation that’s constantly looking to set industry standards and increase its competitiveness.
Managing Director, Alex Lloyd congratulated the Jacopa team involved in the Achilles audit saying, “This is an outstanding result for the Company and demonstrates our commitment to maximise opportunity and mitigate risk to deliver sustainable products and services that meet and often exceed buyers’ expectations”.

WEST BROMWICH TO WIN WORLD CUP

WEST BROMWICH TO WIN WORLD CUP
As the 2018 World Cup draws ever closer the eyes of the globe are turning towards Russia. But despite the Baggies recent relegation from the Premier League it promises to be an action-packed, drama-filled month at West Bromwich as Jacopa’s very own football fans launch their World Cup sweepstake today.
Employees found out who struck lucky as the envelopes containing the names of the 32 final contenders were opened to reveal who might be backing the country that lifts the cup and who were likely to be sick as a parrot with a team that’s back on the plane before bedtime. But even if you did draw Saudi Arabia (which officially has the least chance of winning) and your colleague got Brazil there was no need for tears in the dressing room as Jacopa have a world-class range of technologies that make them champions every time.
Managing Director, Alex Lloyd said, “Employees were all excited to finally know who they got to back, but one team I know they all support one hundred per cent is Jacopa whose commitment to ensuring customers get the very best service always makes us a winning team”.

JACOPA ENTERS TERTIARY TREATMENT MARKET
May 3rd 2018
JACOPA ENTERS TERTIARY TREATMENT MARKET
Wastewater systems and solutions experts Jacopa are to enter the UK and Ireland tertiary treatment market with a range of high-performance, low-operating cost, cloth media tertiary filters for wastewater treatment. The move marks a watershed for the company as it consolidates and builds on its extensive wastewater treatment expertise to provide a one-stop-shop for wastewater treatment products and services.
The FFP™ fixed plate cloth media filters are manufactured by American company Fluidyne; a well established innovator in filtration technologies. The filters are already recognised internationally as an ideal solution for phosphorus removal in wastewater treatment works, and have a wide range of further applications.
The deployment of tertiary treatment processes to polish effluents, reducing concentrations of suspended solids is well established and requirements to achieve higher standards is leading to increased interest in priority substance removal including phosphorus, putting more reliance upon tertiary treatment to maintain compliance with ever tightening consent standards.
Fluidyne FFP™ cloth media filters feature an innovative fixed panel design that uses simple gravity to produce filtration and backwash flow. The high performance, low-operating cost, cloth media filter is suitable for tertiary treatment for both large and small wastewater treatment applications.
Their popularity is due to a combination of factors including ease of operation, simple maintenance, cost-effectiveness, robustness and reliability. The filter requires no internal or submerged moving parts; so much of the mechanical complexity, maintenance, and costs that arise with other systems is removed.
The exceptionally low cost of media replacement is a particular advantage. The chemically resistant acrylic cloth media is supplied in flat sheets, requiring no stitching or fabrication and is simply clamped to the cassette frame with no specialist tools required. This simple design reduces replacement media cost, lead-time and maintenance.
The units’ deliver highly effective filtration and have a wide capacity range. Fluidyne filters remove suspended solids down to 10 microns and can be configured for flows ranging up to 250 litres/s per unit. The filters are provided as completely factory assembled freestanding modular stainless steel packages, additionally modules can be retrofitted into new or existing concrete basins. Packages are built offsite and delivered fully assembled requiring just power and piping connections enabling efficient, economical installation and set up with reduced site health and safety risks.
Tertiary suspended solids and phosphorus removal are seen as key applications in the UK and Ireland, though the cloth filters have multiple potential uses both for municipal and industrial applications upstream and downstream of other treatment processes.

SIX OF THE BEST FOR WESSEX
Wastewater systems and solutions experts Jacopa have won a major contract to provide Wessex Water with six mobile submerged aerated filter (SAF) units, which will support treatment systems at the utility’s wastewater treatment works.
Four Copa CB 750 SAFs and two CB 300 units will be delivered to Weston-super-Mare wastewater treatment works and then shipped out to various treatment works as and when required.
The contract requires a fast turn-round, and all units are being delivered in a short timescale. The SAFs will enable Wessex Water to support works that may be overloaded or face challenging consents, and are ideally suited for use at works where intermittent loading can be an on-going issue.
The highly effective treatment provided by the high performance biological filters supports operational compliance – the units have an immediate effect on BOD reduction and are 100% effective within four weeks of start up. Their simple operation reduces labour requirements, and the robust design cuts whole life costs. As the units have a compact footprint, land use costs are also reduced.
Jacopa Managing Director, Alex Lloyd said, “We are delighted to have won this prestigious contract, as we have a long-standing reputation for supplying deployable SAFs to Wessex Water. We believe in providing a first class sales service and dedicated on-going support to our clients, to ensure that they maximise the benefits they can achieve with the world-class solutions we offer.”

JACOPA MBR CUTS IT FOR MEAT PROCESSORS

JACOPA MBR CUTS IT FOR MEAT PROCESSORS
Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) systems are currently the best technology available to meet stringent treated effluent standards in wastewater treatment and reuse applications and where small footprint dictates using a more intense and compact process. Jacopa works with customers to deliver the MBR technology that will meet the needs of each wastewater treatment requirement or problem.
Over many years Jacopa has proved its leadership in the MBR arena. Jacopa is able to provide new plants, with the capability to containerise if needed, extend and refurbish existing plants, upgrade existing plants and also to provide replacement membrane panels with expert technical support as required.
Many abattoirs, meat processors and butcheries produce wastewater with high levels of fats, solids, BOD and COD. The high cost of disposal of such effluent has driven the meat processing industry to seek more economical on-site wastewater treatment.
Coupled to the pressure to increase capacity without generating a larger treatment footprint, the Jacopa high performance MBR is the cost-effective solution, the small footprint reduces building costs and the low maintenance plant often replaces existing conventional sedimentation and tertiary filtration systems.
The Jacopa MBR economically delivers high quality treated effluent to meet and often exceed discharge standards with opportunities for water re-use for applications such as wash down of animal sheds and vehicles.
